Between the ages of 11 and 15 is the most common time for comprehensive orthodontic treatment. By 12, most, if not all, of the permanent teeth have erupted and are in place, and crooked teeth, gaps, and bad bites can easily be detected. After eruption, these problems will hardly ever correct themselves, so this is when most parents decide to seek orthodontic treatment.
After growth is complete, orthodontic problems can become more challenging to correct. Treating many patients while they are going through their growth spurt can help prevent more complex treatments in the future. Typically, patients will have increased jaw growth during this time frame, allowing for more bite correction to be accomplished.
